Auditions are required for membership in the Oregon State Drumline. If you are interested in auditioning, take these three easy steps:
Step 1. Get on our radar. For general information about the OSUMB, please fill out this INTEREST FORM (if you have not already done so), which will send you an email with important info about the entire marching band program at Oregon State University, including a link to the “Intent to Participate” form (see Step 2). We will also send you an additional drumline-specific email with the password to access this year’s audition packet.
Step 2. Tell us you want in. To be eligible to audition for the drumline, you must submit a completed “INTENT TO PARTICIPATE” form to the Oregon State Athletics Bands office. If you have followed Step 1, you will receive the link to this form. This form declares your intention to audition for the 2018-19 drumline.
Step 3. Practice. Download the audition packet (password-protected, see Step 1 above) and prepare to the best of your ability.
The OSU Drumline holds two auditions each year: Spring (for returning members) and Fall (for incoming students). See below for dates, times, and other details.
June 9, 9:00am-3:30pm (returning members only)
For returning members (currently enrolled/dual-enrolled students with at least one prior year of membership in the OSUMB). Candidates meeting the highest standards will be offered a roster spot for the following school year. Other candidates will be invited to re-audition at the Fall Auditions.
August 11, 11:00am-7:30pm (required – all incoming students)
This audition is held prior to the school year for all incoming students, returning students who do not yet have a roster spot, and returning students who already have a roster spot but wish to re-audition for the opportunity to be considered for another instrument. Positions will still be available in each section. You are always welcome to audition for more than one instrument.
Participation in the on-site audition will give you the best opportunity to show us your skills and abilities. If you feel you cannot attend the audition in person, an alternative audition process may be available as determined on an individual basis (out-of-state students only). Contact us to discuss your particular circumstance.
We will contact everyone following the auditions to let them know their status. If you are offered a position in the Oregon State Drumline, you will be required to attend both the Drumline Camp (Sept 5-9) and Band Camp (Sept 10-15). NOTE: There may also be add’l drumline rehearsal blocks Sept 17-18.
These auditions are competitive; membership in the Oregon State Drumline is not guaranteed and it is possible that cuts will be made. Please prepare thoroughly and arrive ready to give us your best possible performance.
If you are not offered a roster spot in the drumline, you are welcome to register for our Spring Drumline course (the following Spring Term), which is designed to give you the skills necessary to compete for a position in the drumline in future years. All auditions are held at Reser Stadium.
We hold two optional workshops for incoming and returning students prior to the Fall auditions. You are welcome and encouraged to attend both. The primary purpose of these voluntary workshops is to help you prepare for the Fall Auditions. They are also effective general review sessions for returning members. If you would like to receive feedback on your playing ability and preparation prior to the Fall Audition — this is your chance.
- WORKSHOP 1: Saturday, July 14, 1-4p
- WORKSHOP 2: Sunday, July 29, 3-6p
We are looking forward to great auditions this year! Please don’t hesitate to email us if you have any questions. We are happy to help!
