The ability to read and learn music efficiently is a critical skill in the OSU Drumline. Members have to learn and memorize dozens of songs to be played in the stands, 4-5 half-time shows, 3-4 cadences, 7-8 short grooves, ~20 cheers, and several exercises and warm-ups.
To help address this issue, we use a sight-reading curriculum in multiple meters and styles. Please work through the exercises below to develop your reading skills. Most stickings are not articulated (intentionally); apply standard leading-hand rules and common sense. Tip: Don’t listen to the recordings until after you have attempted the sight-reading.
