Part Placement Video Guidelines
Due Dates (Winds)
Early Decision: May 19
Regular deadline: June 16
We have an enrollment cap for the marching band. In the event that we have signups in excess of that cap, part hearing videos will be used to set the roster. Everyone is encouraged to get their signup in by the Early Decision (May 19).
Wind Players
Guidelines
You will be asked for a link to your part hearing video when filling out the signup form. This can be on a video hosting platform such as YouTube or Vimeo, it can be in a storage service like Drive, Dropbox, or Box. As long the permissions and viewing accessibility are correct, and the link will stay live through the summer.
You must submit a video if you are a new member in 2025, OR if you are intending on switching parts (ex. tmb 2 to tmb 1). Returning members who are staying on their same part do not need to submit a part hearing video. Returners who are intending on switching parts should notify their section leaders, and also submit a video on the part they would like to switch to.
Videos should be taken from a perspective where the viewer can see your valves/keys/slide, and should prioritize sound recording quality over video recording quality. Please make sure your video reflects the way you sound in person as much as possible.
There will be two components to this year’s part hearing videos:
Scales:
Bb and C instruments - Concert Ab Major (two octaves if possible)
Eb and F instruments - Concert Eb Major (two octaves if possible)
All instruments - Chromatic scale to your personal comfortable high and low range limits
Other Songs:
One play-through each of Cheer and Mighty for clarinets and piccolos
One play-through of Hail To OSU for everyone else (starting measure one, take the first, then third ending)
Color Guard and Drumline
Drumline and Color Guard run workshops over the summer, and auditions take place at the end of the summer
